Your patterns should be arranged with contrast in mind. A Repp tie with a thick strip will work with the fine lines of an antiqued-striped shirt. We also love the look of a gingham shirt with a narrow dotted tie or one with a conversational motif, such as skull-and-crossbones. Of course, pairing a solid tie with a striped shirt is always elegant, as long as the colors are complimentary.

Hallmarks of A Quality Dress Shirt

Make sure the material feels good to the touch. A quality dress shirt should be woven from 250 two-ply cotton with split-yoke detailing (where the yoke is cut in two and sewn up the middle). Also, a single-needle-stitched shirt ensures that the seams are strong. Finally, the sleeves should be set into the shirt and neatly sewn, the placket and cuffs sewn on separately, and the buttons made from mother-of-pearl rather than plastic.
